About Us
After 400 years of rule by the Ottoman Empire, Greece declared its independence on March 25, 1821. “Enosis” The Federation of Hellenic-American Organizations sponsors The Annual Greek Independence Day Parade, which is held on the closest Sunday to March 25th, a dual celebration integrally connected with the Christian Feast of the Annunciation. The annual commemoration bring together thousands of Greek-American civic, religious and political organizations, representatives of the Greek Orthodox Church and American and Greek government officials along Chicago’s Greek Town.
“Enosis” stands for The Federation of Hellenic-American Organizations. The Hellenic Heritage is a registered trademark in the state of Illinois. It consists of any and all non-profit Hellenic organizations incorporated in the state of Illinois. “Enosis” supports and promotes Hellenism by being the main body of the Hellenic Heritage, “The Steering Committee”.
The membership of the “Enosis” is open to any non-profit organization, incorporated and registered in the state of Illinois. To be eligible to be a member of the steering committee it must also have in its objectives the promotion and support of Hellenism in general and at least ten members. There are approximately 50 dues paying members among the 120 organizations in the state of Illinois.
